During the summer of 2024, I spent a month at Visual Studies Workshop in Rochester, New York. There I work on a piece titled To Give Place, which is a ongoing project evolving since 2020. The concept is to use found photographs, both slides and snapshots, to tell a story and to give place to anonymous pictures. Some stories are not talked about until photographs are looked at. The recollection of memory changes over time. The narratives in To Give Place, are fictitious parts. They are are bits of conversations that possibly could have happened. How do we know the narrative of a found photo? We can only guess by facts that visually present themselves.
At VSW, this consisted of a two part installation with typed conversational statements and a projection utilizing 3 analogue slide projectors. I used the beautiful auditorium space and screen to project onto.
